The Challenge
Hotter is a very well-established and well-loved brand, with a very loyal fan base and, above all, a manufacturing plant in the UK. They currently trade from 17 standalone high-street stores and about 10 concessions in garden centres. Hotter are renowned among women and men alike for their comfort and high-quality footwear and are known as the UK's largest shoe manufacturer.
The previous Hotter website technology stack had been built up over many years and consisted of many third party microservices based on 'state of the art' headless technologies. Woolovers needed to quickly move the eCommerce operations away from these composable solutions to help bring costs down in an exercise to save their 27 stores and prevent redundancies in its 400+ workforce.
The biggest challenge in this project was that because such a diverse list of technologies and large consultancies were being used, decoupling and replacing all elements in their previous stack was the best solution. The old eCommerce storefront essentially relied on all of these modules to keep the site alive - so any failure, licensing, or contract problem with any individual module would lead to operational issues impacting the entire online business. Therefore, the WoolOvers group commissioned Remarkable Commerce to create a storefront which matched the functionality of their other brands, also becoming connected to their existing internal systems.
The Solution
As established clients of Remarkable, the new owners of Hotter chose the Remarkable Commerce platform as the ideal foundation for reimagining the brand. Remarkable’s ability for a rapid migration coupled with a lightning-fast, stable and headless architecture, made it the ideal choice.
Within 7 weeks, the Hotter.com domain relaunched - using Remarkable Commerce, as a high-speed and highly-optimised eCommerce storefront with improved customer journeys and UX.
The WoolOvers group have their own internal PIM/Stock/OMS solutions, referred to amongst many as a hybrid-ERP - which needed to be integrated into the new Hotter site. The new shipping options match the other brands and orders are managed in the same process, allowing the group to offer great shipping and returns options from launch.
The platform’s headless, API-first architecture has accelerated the trading and performance for Hotter. In addition, the multi-channel approach to the Remarkable Commerce platform allows Hotter to trade across multiple external channels such as M&S, Next, and Charles Clinkard.
