The Challenge
Scotts of Stow were previously owned by Scotts & Co and were acquired by WoolOvers group in 2023, in a pre-pack deal that also saw Expert Living and Bloom be acquired by WoolOvers too. The WoolOvers team saw huge potential in aligning their existing customers with those of Scotts of Stow, especially with their heritage and background in transitioning customers from a mail-order/catalogue world, into the modern digital world of eCommerce.
The previous BigCommerce platform was operated by the previous owners and team, which was shut down and a holding page was created, whilst the new storefront was built. The biggest challenge was regarding the project timeline, and not wishing to keep customers waiting too long.
During any re-platforming project, the product data migration is one of the hardest challenges and often longest piece of work to complete - especially as it is the pre-requisite of many parts of the site. When a retailer acquires a brand, the historic product data is being received in a format/quality that often needs a large amount of editing. Remarkable support WoolOvers on this activity, bending the logic and adjusting the platform architecture to allow for a custom configuration of product data.
The Solution
Each of WoolOvers group's websites are integrated with third parties - these include Adyen and PayPal payment gateways, Feefo for product reviews and Ometria will be used for marketing campaigns. As well as tightly integrating with WoolOvers' custom-built internally-managed ERP solution.
With the time constraints - Woolovers had to prioritise what was essential and launched as an MVP (minimal viable product), to ensure timelines could be met. Specifically, when a retailer has many different forms of products, the attributes and data fields can be very varied, which makes the product catalogue structure difficult to architect. In addition, when a brand is acquired and product data is inherited, it can often be structured differently to the other brands.
The platform's headless, API-first architecture has accelerated the trading and performance for Scotts of Stow - streamlining marketplace integration, payment method expansion and the launch of a feature-rich mobile app, relying on a stable and fast API library.
The Results
- Re-platformed and launched within 4 weeks
- Brand new storefront, using the WoolOvers group architecture
- Pre-integrated with micro-services modules including CMS
