2016 was a very tough year for online retail, with indefinite external influences affecting sales and purchasing confidence across many ecommerce verticals. However, throughout the storm of 2016 many Remarkable Commerce’s clients saw year-on-year growth and proved their salt.
Menswear retailer Moss Bros. have this week reported a jump in company profits, with despite extremely tough market conditions, online sales increased 15.7% in 2016.
Since forming a relationship with Remarkable Commerce in 2011, Moss Bros. have redeveloped their entire online presence with their development agency at their side, forever positioning themselves as the UK’s true menswear experts. Drawing upon their 166 years of expertise in suits and tailoring, the retailer offers suits, shirts and smart clothing for every occasion.
The group, which hires and sells thousands of suits each year, has reported a 20.3 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £7.1 million. Moss Bros said that the strong performance in the 12 months to January 28 was a result of increased sales across its stores and its website, which now accounts for 11 per cent of its total sales.
Remarkable Commerce began working with Moss Bros. in late 2011, building their revamped ecommerce platform and full solution, then later launching their first mobile specific website in 2014. This was followed by the retailer’s first responsive website launch in 2016.
This responsive ecommerce platform relaunch in the summer of 2016 was the largest project of last year which following launch saw healthy sales growth and immediate improvement in the client’s ecommerce conversion rate. The full aesthetic redesign was meticulously planned and carefully considered, with thousands of hours applied to the project by Remarkable Commerce – allowing for the smooth and successful launch in July 2016.
Recognising surging demand for tailoring and the hiring of menswear, Moss Bros. have allocated team resource into their nicknamed “hire revolution” this year, with their major revamp of their hire platform planned for Q2, along with many further operational changes. While Moss Bros has historically sold prom suits, it is to offer them for hire for the first time this year, launching a marketing campaign branded “The Promfather” to promote this new service.
Online sales growth for the retailer over the last 5 years has been phenomenal, with onsite behavioural metrics indicating increased usage and enjoyment coupled with sales doubling within the first year, then increasing 80% the year after, followed by 40% in 2015.
With ambitious budgets but promising sales to date, 2017 is set to be another year of solid growth for the menswear brand against fierce and challenging competition.
Brian Brick, the chief executive of Moss Bros said today that it continued to enjoy solid demand from core customers buying or hiring suits for events such as Ascot or weddings and that investment in the brand has also helped to attract younger men.
